The trial of Philippe Lemaire, accused of murdering his former partner, Marie-Therese Roufosse, in 2018 in Bastogne, begins on 25 April at the Luxembourg Assise Court in Arlon.
Marie-Thérèse Roufosse was shot dead at the counter of her café, “Au New Tacot” in Bastogne on the evening of 25 July 2018.
Eyewitnesses identified Lemaire as the shooter, according to Belga news agency. Knowing that he was being actively sought as the prime suspect, Lemaire turned himself in to the police a few days later.
At his hearing, which was videotaped, Philippe Lemaire immediately confessed to the murder.
Various witnesses questioned during the investigation said the relationship between the victim and her killer, whom they described as a jealous and possessive man, had been stormy.
Philippe Lemaire will begin answering charges of murder, or premeditated voluntary homicide, on 25 April at the Luxembourg Assise Court in Arlon. The trial is expected to last a week.
The 52-year-old Bastogne resident has also been charged with possession of an illegal weapon.
Jury selection has been scheduled for 20 April.
