In anticipation of national strike action next Monday 20 June against the current cost of living crisis, the SNCB, Belgium's national railway provider, plans additional trains to ensure that passengers can still reach their destination.
Thousands are expected to take to the streets of Brussels as part of an organised strike by Belgium's trade unions. They are urging political leaders to address the current cost of living crisis, as well as reform the Wage Norm Act 1996 to allow for better salary negotiations between employers and employees.
The plan is for demonstrators to gather outside Brussels North station from 10:00, with many of them expected to travel to Brussels by train before the strike begins at 11:00, Belga News Agency reports.

Since no strike notice has been issued by the SNCB unions, trains will continue to run and the SNCB anticipates a significant number of passengers.
Unlike previously, the SNCB has no plans for special pricing for the demonstrations and has advised passengers to plan their travels ahead of time. The company says that peak times to avoid are Brussels-North between 09:00 and 11:00 and Brussels-South between 12:30 and 16:00.
