A cycling accident involving several Flemish youths took place on Friday, when several in a group of some 50 cyclists belonging to a scout movement, collectively fell on a road in the north of France, local French media report.
Six to seven of the cyclists fell on the D 940 road in Wissant, in Pas-de-Calais, when returning to their camp.
A young girl was seriously injured and was on Friday evening in a coma, according to French daily La Voix du Nord.
The group of scouts and guides came from Wijnegem in the province of Antwerp, and are part of the Wijnegem 99ste Parsifal Scouts.
La Voix du Nord reports that two young girls got seriously injured despite wearing helmets. One of them, aged 16, suffered a major head trauma and was taken by helicopter to Lille’s central hospital, CHR.
The other seriously injured girl was treated at the Calais hospital.
