The new Studio 100 music show, the ‘Red Star Line’, will premiere on 19 March 2023 in the Pop-up Theater in Puurs.
The successor of "40-45" retraces the journey of a few fortune seekers who leave for the United States in 1923 on ship from Antwerp, setting out .’Red Star Line’ is inspired by testimonials from real Red Star Line passengers and tells the story of the Flemish couple Jan and Marie, who want to leave their hard life as small farmers behind.
Jan will be played alternately by Jelle Cleymans and Jonas Van Geel, regulars in Studio 100 musicals. The role of Marie is reserved for Lotte Stevens and Ianthe Tavernier.
The public will once again be able to sit on gigantic, moving stands controlled by an ingenious navigation system. The music and story of ‘Red Star Line’ can be heard through headphones. Given the connection with the departure port of Antwerp, where the Red Star Line Museum is located, a collaboration has been set up with the city of Antwerp for the musical.
Together, Studio 100 and Antwerp want to introduce the general public to a piece of history that is little known but at the same time very topical due to successive refugee crises. “It will once again be a large, spectacular production around a piece of Flemish history that we absolutely want to tell,” says Gert Verhulst of Studio 100.
