There is currently a severe waste fire in the port of Ghent, causing a large black cloud to hang over the port area. The fire brigade is asking residents to windows and doors be kept closed.
The fire started on Sunday morning. “It concerns a waste fire in the port of Ghent. We are currently on site to put out the fire," said Fire Brigade Zone Centrum.
“For those who experience smoke or odour nuisance: close your windows and doors and switch off the ventilation in the house or in your car when you are in the area.” This applies to residents of Ghent, Sint-Kruis-Winkel, Oostakker, Desteldonk, Zelzate and Wachtebeke.
