The signposting of the new bicycle node network in Brussels has started on the occasion of Mobility Week, which is being observed from 16 to 22 September. The first signs have been placed and the entire network should be completed by the end of this year.
In Flanders and Wallonia, the concept of nodes has been established for years, but Brussels had lagged behind. A digital cycling node network set up in 2020 at www.bikenode.brussels, will now really come on stream in the coming weeks and months.
In total, more than 65 nodes will be installed in the Brussels region, accounting altogether for 220 kilometres of routes. The new network should encourage cyclists to discover places of tourist interest, but above all green spaces. The idea is to introduce riders to the Green Walk or the Sonian Forest, for example. They can also take advantage of a number of thematic routes developed by visit.brussels and the ProVélo association.
“Cycling nodes are an important new asset for the growing number of cyclists in our region," said Brussels Mobility Minister Elke Van den Brandt. "Moreover, it becomes very easy to plan and follow a route within the region or across regional borders, whether you want to cycle from Bruges to Brussels or take a nice ride from Evere to Etterbeek.”
