In honour of International Girl's Day on 11 October, Lego has presented a life-size statue of Belgium's Olympic hero Nafissatou Thiam at Brussels' Gare Centrale.
For the global 'Get ready for girls' campaign, for which Thiam is an ambassador, Lego has pointed out that nine out of ten statues in Belgium are of men.
By building a Lego brick statue of Nafi Thiam, who recently became a two-time World Champion, the toy company wants to make a statement to help break down gender stereotypes.

Thiam commended the partnership in a press release, saying that she was "proud to be an ambassador for this campaign, with which I aim to encourage and empower young girls to recognise that they, too, have a place in sport."
The life-size statue of Nafi Thiam will be visible at Gare Centrale's ticket hall until 17 October, following which it will be moved to the Rue Neuve high street until the end of November.
