In the week 4–10 October, a daily average of 3,099 new Covid-19 infections were detected. This represents a 5% rise on the previous week, according to figures released on Friday morning from the Sciensano Institute of Public Health.
Over the same period, an average of 6.4 people died per day while carrying the virus (+36%), bringing the death toll to 32,776 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium. It should be stressed that in these cases, the virus was not necessarily the cause of death.
Nearly 11,000 daily tests were also carried out with a positivity rate of 24.4%. Between October 7 and October 13, there were an average of 57.9 hospital admissions per day due to Covid-19 – a 45% drop compared to the previous reference period.

A total of 1,486 patients that test positive for the virus are currently in hospital, including 67 in intensive care.
The reproduction rate of the virus is 1.03. When it is greater than 1, this means that the epidemic is spreading. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 365 over 14 days.
