The latest European Train Control System (ETCS) will be installed on 120 trains of the Belgian railway company SNCB by the French manufacturer Alstom, which employs over 2,000 workers in Belgium.
The latter announced the news in a press release on Tuesday, also indicating that the contract included a 10-year agreement to provide maintenance on the vehicles.
On their end, the SNCB confirmed that the design, supply and maintenance of the latest ETCS Level 2 signalling would be installed on these trains running in Belgium, Luxembourg, France and Germany.
ETCS Level 2 was developed to harmonise cross-border rail traffic and should increase the speed, punctuality and capacity of the trains.

Furthermore, it will be Alstom’s site in Charleroi that will be responsible for the engineering and supply of the on-board equipment, with the project set to start in October for an original three-year period.
