As expected, Wednesday's (9 November) "national day of action" by trade unions is heavily impacting public transport. In Brussels, just one metro line is running.
On Wednesday, the socialist (ABVV/FGTB), Christian (ACV/CSC) and liberal (ACLVB/CGSLB) trade unions are organising a general day of "inter-professional" actions and strikes as they repeat their calls for improving people's purchasing power in light of the cost of living rising.
As was previously predicted by the STIB Brussels public transport operator, few buses, trams and metros are operating. Metro line 1 (extended to Erasme), is the only one currently running.
Meanwhile, only tram lines 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 51 and 92 are running; bus lines 12, 34, 36, 46, 50, 53, 56, 59, 65, 71, 73, 87 (extended to Etangs Noirs), 88 and 95 are also running.
"We invite you to take all the necessary precautions and to prepare yourself accordingly as far as possible," STIB wrote on its website on Wednesday.
Trains and public transport in Flanders and Wallonia
From Tuesday at 22:00 until Thursday morning, just one in four trains operated by SNCB will run. An alternative train service schedule has been put in place on the basis of SNCB and Infrabel personnel who decided to work.
One in three IC trains (between major cities) will be running, one in four S and L trains, while most P trains (trains running during peak hours in the morning and evening) are not going ahead. As was the case during the last strike, no trains are running in the provinces of Namur, Luxembourg and part of Walloon Brabant.
