The Brussels-Ixelles police zone registered 208 attacks on police officers among the 105,241 interventions it carried out this year, Mayor Philippe Close said on Monday evening.
Queried by Mouvement Réformateur (MR) parliamentarian David Weytsman on the measures taken to protect the police following the killing of a policeman 10 days ago in Schaerbeek, the mayor specified that 61 deliberate assaults, 12 rebellions, 28 armed rebellions and 107 unarmed rebellions had been recorded.
As a result of the assaults, 124 persons had to be granted leave from work.
“I am very proud, as Mayor of the City of Brussels, of the police force, which provides a complicated service in the face of increasingly complex situations,” the mayor commented.
