Defendant Mohamed Abrini issued a complaint via his attorney Laura Pinilla, when the Brussels bombing trial resumed on Thursday afternoon.

Abrini was unable to take notes on the testimony given during the morning session, Pinilla reported, because, for security reasons, the police declined to give him a ball pen and issued him with a soft pencil instead.

“Mr. Abrini tried to take notes, so that he could ask the investigators questions in a few weeks’ time," the attorney said, showing the president of the court the pencil, "but it is impossible with this!”

“Try to take notes with it, Mr. Abrini,” Laurence Massart, the court president, replied. “If it doesn’t work, we will try to find another solution.”

The proceedings resumed on Thursday afternoon with the hearing of two investigators from Disaster Victim Identification, the federal police’s victim identification service.

They were called to the stand to explain their role in identifying each victim of the airport attack on 22 March 2016.
