In the coming years, Flemish buses running to and from Brussels will be renamed to make it easier for commuters to identify their destination. As a result, the current three digits present on buses will be replaced by the letter 'R' followed by a two-digit number.
The Flemish public transport operator has announced changes to the 50 bus lines running to and from the capital, as the next few years will see them be renamed to be more recognisable.
As a result, these buses will have the letter R added to them, next to a two-digit number, closely resembling the one already present. This means that anyone taking an R line in Brussels will directly know that it is heading to Flanders and vice-versa.

Of the planned changes, some have already been announced. These included the current 129 bus line between Dilbeek and Brussels North, which will be renamed to R29 as of 1 January.
Furthermore, De Lijn plans on launching a communication operation for each change, as part of the reform of their public transport network for 2023.
