Saturday will go down in history as the warmest New Year’s Eve in Belgium since measurements began in 1833.
Temperatures reached 16.2 degrees in Uccle on Saturday morning, according to meteorologist David Dehenauw.
The previous record was set in 2021 with 14.0 degrees. “So it has already been broken,” says David Dehenauw.

The record temperature for the whole of December could also be broken: 16.7 degrees recorded on 16 December 1989.
The high temperatures are due to the southern currents in the subtropical Atlantic Ocean, says the meteorologist.
The wind also prevents the temperatures from cooling down. David Dehenauw expects a gradual cooling in the next few days, with 14 degrees expected on Sunday.
