RSC Anderlecht's CEO Peter Verbeke is leaving his post after the Brussels football club announced on Thursday that the two parties had ended their collaboration.
Verbeke, 40, joined Anderlecht in February 2020 as Sporting Director, until he was promoted to CEO on 1 January 2022.
Last October, Verbeke fell victim to a serious viral infection, which left him on the sidelines for some time. As a result, Anderlecht’s organisation chart had changed again.
Chairman Wouter Vandenhaute stepped aside and became non-executive chairman, leaving the day-to-day management to Jesper Fredberg for the sporting aspect, and Kenneth Bornauw for the rest. According to RSC Anderlecht, the club and Verbeke "came to an agreement regarding the terms of his departure."
“As soon as Peter seemed to recover, the club entered into discussions with him about his future. These talks were mutually respectful and constructive, but they did not lead to an agreement on further cooperation. It was therefore decided to part ways. In the meantime, the club has also reached an agreement with Peter Verbeke on the modalities of his departure,” RSCA said in its press release.
RSC Anderlecht tweeted on Thursday to thank Verbeke for his work over the years, "The Purple & White would like to expressly thank Peter for his efforts in recent years."
Before arriving at Lotto Park, Verbeke was in charge of youth football at Deinze and then worked for five years at Club Brugge before becoming sporting director of Gent between October 2018 and February 2020.
