The Antwerp district of Kiel was rocked by an explosion on Thursday morning, local police report. An incendiary device was likely thrown at a pizzeria on Abdijstraat, causing considerable damage.
The demining service of the Belgian army (DOVO), as well as a forensic laboratory, were called to the scene to carry out an investigation and to collect samples.
Police are currently investigating whether the incident is related to drug violence in Antwerp. The Flemish city is rocked by explosions numerous times per month as rival drug gangs fight for territory in one of Europe’s main destinations for cocaine imports.
