The Brussels tech start-up MolenGeek kicked off its cybersecurity training programme on Monday in collaboration with tech giant Microsoft.
Molengeek will train 150 young people with the goal of joining the Belgian army's own cybersecurity department at the tech co-working space in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean.
As had been announced in June of last year, the programme's objective is to teach trainees the basic fundamentals of cybersecurity. The training is completely free of charge and is targeted towards participants who have not received their diplomas.
After the first round of training, only a select few candidates - 15 in total - will be able to obtain a certified degree in cybersecurity.
Translation of tweet: "Currently at MolenGeek we are in the middle of a selection period for our cybersecurity training. After meeting more than 150 candidates, it's time to move on to the last step: CyberWeek."
While most trainees aspire to join the Ministry of Defence, there are two requirements for entering their cybersecurity service: completing the Microsoft certification and being under the age of 23.
In any case, those who pass the programme will be greatly sought-after by companies, with many eager to boost their own cybersecurity departments amid rising cyberattacks and hacking.
