Motorists awoke to dangerous driving conditions and significant snowfall in the Walloon provinces of Namur, Liège and Luxembourg this morning. All three provinces had been placed under a yellow weather alert by the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) of Belgium, warning of slippery conditions, which was maintained throughout the morning.
According to RTL Info, the snow led to difficult driving conditions in many parts of the region in the morning. “I did not expect this, I was surprised this morning to see so much snow on the roads. It slows you down, so you have to be careful,” one motorist said.
Gritting trucks worked throughout the day to de-ice the roads throughout the region. The work of these vehicles was complicated by consistent snowfall which continued through the late morning in some places. Some minor roads were not gritted and remained icy.

“I came from the highway and not everything was clear. It’s quite dangerous. I saw a lot of trucks idling, very slowly. I saw a few accidents. There is still a lot of snow and it’s still falling,” another motorist complained.
