Police shot an armed patient at a psychiatric hospital in Uccle on Tuesday morning, confirmed the local police of the Marlow zone (Uccle/Oudergem/Watermael-Boitsfort). It was later reported that the patient died of his injuries.
The incident took place around 10:30 at the Fond'Roy psychiatric hospital, on Jacques Pastur Avenue in Uccle.
"According to the first elements of the investigation, the 49-year-old patient in question is said to have been carrying a sharp weapon," the Public Prosecutor’s Office stated.
Police had to intervene because staff could not calm down a patient, who was described as being aggressive, the Office said.
When police failed to calm the patient down, shots were fired by officers. The man was then taken to the hospital in a critical condition, where according to first reports by VRTNWS, he eventually died of his injuries.
The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the patient has died of his injuries.
