Three people will go on trial in September for shouting abuse at Emmanuel Macron during the French president’s visit to Selestat, Alsace, the Colmar prosecutor confirmed to AFP on Saturday.
The three protesters, two men and a woman who have no previous criminal record, will appear in court on a preliminary admission of guilt for insulting a person of authority, said prosecutor Catherine Sorita-Minard, confirming and clarifying information from the newspaper L’Alsace.
A fourth person had been arrested and placed in police custody but his case was dismissed because the offence was insufficiently characterised.
The Colmar prosecutor has also received two complaints about an intentional electricity sabotage during the visit of the head of state on Wednesday in the neighbouring town of Muttersholtz. The State has filed a complaint for this cut that affected two communes.
This power cut occurred during the visit by Macron to the company Mathis. The factory, which specialises in wooden construction, was left without power though the premises were not plunged into darkness. This action was claimed by the CGT trade union and an investigation is underway.
