Swiss rider Marlen Reusser (SD Worx), winner of Ghent-Wevelgem, placed third in the women’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège after animating much of the final on her own. Her teammate Demi Vollering won the event.
Describing how the event went for the team, Reusser explained that “It wasn’t really the plan for me to go alone in the final and I must admit that at one point I thought a little bit that I could win, but alone it was very hard in the Roche-aux-Faucons.”
“The basic goal of the team was not to control the race too much and to save ourselves as much as possible to give everything in the final. When I got away, we changed our plan. But we were able to manage, we ran a little bit on intuition and everything ended well.”.
Marlen Reusser was reeled in on the La Roche-aux-Faucons climb, after a long solo effort. “I thought that I would eventually be caught by the best climbers and maybe I could hang on to them, which I managed to do.”

“I’m very happy to be in my team, I’m learning, I’m progressing, it’s a good reason to extend the adventure with this group,” said Reusser, who extended her contract on Saturday until 2024.
“I didn’t have the legs of my life, I had a very hard week. I had a very hard week, but I got a very good result. My team is very strong, we started winning at Circuit Het Nieuwsblad with Lotte Kopecky and since then we are in a kind of positive dynamic. We approach every race with confidence, we race together as a team. That’s essential."
