The staff of social services centres (CPAS) in Brussels submitted a strike notice to notify the public that there will be a strike Tuesday 25 April. The Joint Trade Union Front which represents 19 CPAS in the region submitted the strike notice for next Tuesday.
The sector is upset at the shortage of staff numbers and public funding. Since Covid-19, the Ukraine war and inflation the 19 CPAS have faced an increase in the number of citizens needing help and therefore an increased workload. This has made their job of guiding people toward social emancipation very difficult.

The sector is especially angry that political leaders continue to pass the buck on the issue, according to trade union secretary Maxime Nys (ACOD-ABVV). The unions are demanding the recruitment of additional workers, a refinancing of the 19 CPAS and a wage increase of 15% to create more attractive jobs.
The strike has been announced for Tuesday the 25th at 10:00 and will include the installation of strike pickets in front of the CPAS buildings in the morning as well as a demonstration.
The strike will begin in front of the CPAS of the City of Brussels and continue past the cabinet of the Federal Minister of Social Integration. An interview with the minister Karine Lalieux (PS) will take place at 12:00.
