Brussels citizens will open the doors to their gardens and share their experience of composting in an urban environment during a one-week event organised by Brussels Environment and the ASBL Worms non-profit organisation.

The sorting of organic waste into orange bags will become compulsory in the capital region from 15 May, ahead of Compost Days, to be held on 4-10 June.

Some fifty private and collective compost sites, both indoor and outdoor, have already been registered to welcome the curious. Residents will be on hand to answer questions, explain what they are doing and why.

The week will end with a compost festival in Saint-Gilles. From 10am to 6pm, a variety of activities will be offered to people who want to learn more, and a micro-market will also offer seeds and other tips related to the zero-waste objective.

Bike rides and walking tours will be available, upon reservation, by ASBL Worms, and various workshops, such as gardening, bike repair or worm composting will be organised, some with a programme dedicated to the youngest visitors.

Capital residents can still register their compost for the event on the website,  https://www.compostday.brussels/.
