Former US President Donald Trump was found liable for sexual abuse on Tuesday by a New York civil court.
The court had been asked to determine whether Trump had committed rape in 1996 on a former journalist, who also accused him of defamation, according to media reports.
The nine jurors determined that Trump was not liable for “rape” as accused by former newspaper columnist E. Jean Carroll, US media outlets including the New York Times and CNN reported.
The federal civil court in Manhattan also ruled that Trump must pay some $5 million in damages for that sexual abuse, perpetrated in a New York department store in 1996, and for defamation, based on the Ms. Carroll disclosure of the incident in 2019.
