Seven suspects have been referred to the correctional court in Antwerp for allegedly throwing cocaine and cannabis over the walls of prisons in Antwerp, Merksplas and Tongeren, the prosecutor’s office reported in a press release.
The criminal investigation department of Antwerp police zone had launched an investigation at the end of October 2022, after receiving information about a call number that was used to throw drugs into prisons.
“During that investigation, a criminal organisation came into view that had various contacts with detainees from their cells. The inmates placed their orders with the main suspect who prepared the package. An employee then threw that over the prison walls,” the prosecutor’s office said.

On 16 February, two searches were carried out in Berchem and Deurne as part of the investigation. These uncovered a total of 55 grams of cocaine, 1,864 grams of hashish and €3,615 in cash, all of which were then seized. Seven suspects – men aged between 22 and 33 – were identified.
“The suspects appeared before the chambers on Tuesday, which decided to refer them to the correctional court. They will have to answer there later for trafficking cocaine and cannabis in association,” the prosecutor’s office said.
