Brussels Airport welcomed nearly 1.9 million passengers last month, an increase of 18% compared to April 2022, the airport announced on Thursday.
The company justifies this increase by the spring holidays (Easter) in the Flemish education system, as well as the beginning of the May holidays in the Netherlands at the end of April.
Many Dutch tourists have increased their use of Zaventem after the chaos observed a year ago at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, which was hit by long delays.
The share of transfer passengers on departure was 15%, 40% more than in 2022. “Figures that confirm the recovery of intercontinental traffic and the position of Brussels Airport as an important hub,” the airport authorities comment.
The five most popular countries in April were Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal and the United States.
The number of cargo flights dropped by 3.8% on an annual basis in April, while the number of passenger flights rose by almost 10%.
