The perpetrator of a joy-ride around the Grand-Place in Mons at around 03.30 on Saturday has been placed under arrest for six attempted murders, the Mons Public Prosecutor’s Office said on Saturday.
The actions of the individual, who drove his car into groups of people, left six people injured. The arrest warrant also relates to malicious obstruction of traffic, given his dangerous driving.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office said that the individual is known to the judicial services in Belgium, notably for drug-related offences. He has not, however, been convicted.
The forty-year-old’s record is, on the other hand, quite extensive in France, his country of origin, where he has already been sentenced to prison for an attempted murder dating back to 2012, in connection with serious acts similar to those in Mons, which had taken place in Lille.
