With summer just beginning, the Federal government is working on rolling out a new vaccination campaign for the autumn, De Standaard reports. Uncertainty about access to vaccines adapted to new variants is complicating planning.
Next Wednesday, public health ministers in Belgium will meet to begin organising the campaign. Another campaign has already been confirmed, but a decision must be made regarding which groups will be targeted and where vaccination will take place.
The Federal government is concerned that it may not receive vaccines adapted to the dominant variant of Covid-19 during autumn. This could limit the sector of society that is offered another booster shot. The Superior Health Council will soon present its recommendations.

One thing is already known: the scope and scale of this new vaccination campaign will be significantly reduced compared to previous ones. Vaccinations centres will not be opened in sports halls or at public events.
Virologist Steven Van Gucht says that everyone will have the option to benefit from a free booster shot, but it is still uncertain "if the vaccine will remain free."
