The beloved Brussels music festival Couleur Café opened its doors to ticket-holders at 14:00 on Friday afternoon in Osseghem Park, near the Atomium.

About 21,000 visitors are expected daily, and nearly 65,000 over the whole weekend.

On Friday, Thundercat, Earl Sweatshirt, Really!, Roméo Elvis and many others will perform on stage. Saturday and Sunday will see Nidia, Jazz Brak, Lander & Adriaan, Kin'gongolo Kiniatia, ISHA, Joey Bada$$, Flohio and more taking to the stage.

"We are looking super forward to it and the weather this weekend is ideal for a festival," Dennis Corbesier, the spokesperson for the festival said. "Ticket sales are also going extremely well. Saturday's festival is already sold out and tickets for Friday and Sunday are also almost sold out."

While there are no other changes to the line-up, it was announced that Blackwave will start 15 minutes earlier on Friday.

In total, Couleur Café in the Osseghem Park, at the foot of the Atomium, has six stages: Red Stage, Green Stage, The Fox, The Black Stage, The Dub Stage and La Plancha. Open to all ages, the festival has long been a fixture of the Brussels summer festivals.

Environmentally conscious

In the run-up to the launch of the CORE Festival, criticism echoed that Osseghem Park could not withstand frequent use by larger music festivals, including Couleur Café and, to a lesser extent, Brossella. To protect the park from the thousands of festival-goers, Couleur Café is taking measures.

Especially for the commitment to protecting the park, the Eco-Team was formed, under the leadership of Alessio Porcelli, who told Bruzz that with good preparation, the park can be protected as much as possible.

The trees in the park will especially be protected, but geotextiles will also be used in certain places to protect the grass. There are also 18,000 portable ashtrays provided to store cigarette butts, and recycling bins will also be used during the festival.

Couleur Café 2023 also uses Rekwup's reusable cups. "A big step towards a more sustainable festival. Besides being more eco-friendly, they also reduce litter and clean-up work," said the festival organiser. Every festival-goer will receive an eco-token upon entering the festival grounds, which can then be exchanged for a cup.
