Brussels' Outer Ring Road has been closed to traffic due to a road sign coming loose after the accident near the suburb of Hoeilaart on Friday afternoon.

"A truck drove into the sign," Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Centre confirmed, before recommending motorists avoid the area.

The sign was hanging across the entire ring road and brought traffic to a complete standstill during the Friday rush hour. The R0 has been completely closed to traffic before the inner ring road was reopened.

Tweet translation: "At Hoeilaart, the inner ring has been reopened and the diversions have stopped. The outer ring will remain closed for an unknown period."

"We don't yet have a forecast on how long the closure will last," Bruyninckx stated before confirming that drivers can no longer get to the E411.
