A record 6,000 people attended the 208th Battle of Waterloo reenactment this weekend, according to Kleber Rossillon, the event's co-organiser. Despite the postponement, the event was deemed a success.
According to Kleber Rossillon, 3,000 spectators turned up both Saturday and Sunday. The spectators enjoyed scenes acted out by the 2,000 re-enactors as they brought the battlefield back to life with gunfire and the sound of galloping horses.
The commemorations are usually held on the day of the actual battle, which was fought on 18 July 1815. However, due to the changes in the school holidays in French-speaking schools, the event was moved to 1 and 2 July this year.
Thibault Danthine, President of Kleber Rosillon, said that the decision to postpone the re-enactment had proved to be successful.
