Authorities in Glabbeek, Flemish Brabant, and nearby municipalities are moving to block an illegal rave party said to have been scheduled for a location in the area.

Rumours of the organisation of a large-scale rave had been circulating since Thursday evening, but it had not been immediately clear exactly where it would take place.

Glabbeek Mayor Peter Reekmans said on Friday afternoon that he had received information from the federal police that it was planned for the former military domain of Attenrode-Wever.

“We have taken the maximum measures to prevent a large crowd from going there,” Reekmans said. “The access roads to the military domain have been cordoned off with containers. The police are patrolling and checking. We are monitoring the roads with ANPR cameras.”

According to the mayor, it was not yet clear whether the rave would take place on Friday night or Saturday. “If people who should not be at the domain arrive there, we will discourage them and send them back,” he said. “So far, everything is calm, so we are still focusing on prevention.”

Reekmans had reported on Thursday night that rumours were circulating of an illegal rave party like one held two weeks ago in Brustem (Sint-Truiden) that was going to be held somewhere between the towns of Tienen and Diest.

The mayor immediately had shipping containers placed at the access roads to the former military domain.

The city councils of Tienen and Sint-Truiden also announced that they were taking preventive measures against the planned rave party.
