For the second consecutive month, Brussels Airport welcomed more than two million passengers, the airport reported on Wednesday. This is an increase of 17% on 2022 figures and is especially due to the start of the Flemish summer school holidays.
Over the first half of the year as a whole, passenger numbers at the airport have been up by more than a third compared with the first six months of 2022, which were still marked by the coronavirus pandemic.
To be precise, 2,021,757 passengers walked the corridors of Brussels Airport in June. Of these, 15% were transferring to their holiday destination – an increase of 33% compared to 2022. This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that the airport serves as an important hub for travel from Europe and North America to Africa that the airport represents.
The ten most visited countries in June were Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Turkey, France, the United States, Portugal, Morocco and the United Kingdom.
