A 12-year-old boy from Wallonia died in the hospital after he was accidentally shot with a carbine while playing with a friend, the Walloon-Brabant prosecutor's office confirmed on Monday.
The incident took place in the town of Villers-la-Ville while the boys were playing with a firearm belonging to one of their parents, the prosecutor's office said.
“The accident happened last Monday when the children were playing with a lead carbine from the father," authorities told Het Laatste Nieuws, adding one boy had "manifestly shot at the other," who was hit in a vital organ.
The 12-year-old was taken to the hospital where he died on Thursday from a lung perforation, the according to the outlet.
Following the death of the minor, the prosecutor's office said it would launch an investigation into the incident.
