A 21-year-old woman from Veurne (West Flanders) was gravely injured in a road accident in Koksijde on Tuesday evening, according to the West Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office, Veurne division. The cyclist was hit by a car that should have given right of way.
The accident occurred at around 17:30 in Wulpen, a section of the municipality of Koksijde. A young woman was cycling along the Koningstraat and was hit by a vehicle at the T-junction with the Langeleedstraat. The emergency services intervened quickly to administer first aid to the victim, who was transferred to hospital in critical condition.
The Veurne Public Prosecutor’s Office sent a traffic expert to the scene to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. According to the expert’s initial conclusions, the car should have given way to the bicycle. The driver’s licence was immediately withdrawn for 15 days.
