The Arts-Loi tunnel has been closed to traffic for several days due to maintenance work to remove asbestos and repair and reinforce the ceilings against corrosion.

The busy tunnel is not the only place where Brussels Mobility is carrying out maintenance work this summer. Other tunnels, such as the Tervuren tunnel and the Woluwe tunnel are also closed from 1 July to 27 August.

In the first weeks, asbestos is removed. After that, the concrete ceilings will be repaired.

The lane of the Bailli and Vleurgat tunnels towards the centre will also remain closed until the end of August; traffic in the direction of Ter Kameren must use one lane. Traffic in the direction of the centre will be diverted above ground.

The other tunnels where maintenance work is being done – the Trône, Madou, Reyers and Rogier tunnels – are only closed at night.

The Trône tunnel will be closed until the end of October, while the Madou and Reyers centre ones will be closed until the end of September. The work in the Rogier tunnel will last until the end of December.

Starting from September, the Porte de Namur and the Botanique tunnels will be undergoing works to protect the ceilings against corrosion.  It concerns nightly works that will last until the beginning of 2024 and March 2024 respectively.
