The Limburg Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the death of a resident of the Corsala residential care home in Beringen. As three more residents became unwell shortly after the death, the police were notified.
An elderly person with dementia living in the residential care home Corsala in Beringen died on Saturday. An autopsy will be carried out on Monday, the Limburg Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed.
"Shortly after the death, three more residents became unwell, one of whom was taken to hospital. The residential care home therefore informed the police," Katrien Truyen of the Limburg Public Prosecutor's Office told VRT. "A judicial investigation has been launched. We are currently still investigating whether there is a crime and whether these four cases are linked."
Malicious intent has not been ruled out, but the authorities are looking into all paths currently. An autopsy will take place on Monday and a toxicological examination will also follow.
The three residents who became unwell are doing better now, but one is still in hospital for now. "Our residents were very shocked, but our staff are doing their utmost to surround everyone with great care."
