Ryanair pilots based at Charleroi Airport will go on strike on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 August, Belga News Agency reports.

Employees of the low-cost Irish airline accuse it of harvesting bumper profits while failing to reverse salary cuts implemented during the Covid-19 crisis. They also allege that Ryanair has violated a previous agreement regulating pilot rest times.

The latest strike will be the third time in the past month that pilots have taken industrial action at Charleroi Airport, after previous strikes on 15-16 and 29-30 July. The first action in July led to the cancellation of 120 flights to and from Charleroi; the second saw around 100 flights cancelled.

"We have not received any valid proposals from [Ryanair]," said Didier Lebbe, permanent secretary of the CNE, one of the unions which represents the pilots. "All we receive are threats and illegal proposals."

Lebbe also condemned Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson for responding to the pilots' demands by merely "copying and pasting what the airline's director of human resources has sent us so far".

The strike will not affect Ryanair's flights at Zaventem Airport, as the aircraft it uses there are not formally based in Belgium.
