The three floors of the Eiffel Tower were evacuated early Saturday afternoon following an alarm, AFP learned from the monument’s operating company (Sete). The police bomb disposal unit attended the site.
The mobilisation of the police and the bomb disposal unit “is a usual procedure in this kind of situation, which is nevertheless rare”, a Sete spokeswoman said. The reason for the alert was not specified.
The evacuation, which began at around midday, concerns all three floors of the monument, including the tower’s restaurant, as well as the forecourt, this spokeswoman added.
Shortly after 13:30, all visitors had been evacuated.
