Job IT Day, the Walloon job fair for IT and digital professions, is back for its 13th virtual edition on 18 and 19 October.
There are currently almost 15,000 vacancies in the information and communication technologies sector (ICT) in Wallonia and Brussels, technology federation Agoria stresses. On Wednesday and Thursday next week, 64 companies will therefore be meeting a total of 600 job applicants, with a multitude of online recruitment interviews on the agenda.
"We estimate that there are 14,500 vacancies in Wallonia and Brussels – a number that will rise to 22,000 by 2030 in line with the growth plans of the National Bank of Belgium," explained Senior Talent Expert at Agoria, Jeroen Franssen. "After the hospitality sector, the ICT sector is having the hardest time finding new talent in Wallonia."
The five Walloon digital skills centres (Cepegra, Technifutur, Technobel, Technocité and TechnofuturTIC) notes that there is a high demand for digital talent, but that supply is not keeping up with this demand.
"It is estimated that 45% of companies in the sector see the lack of available skills as the main obstacle to their growth," says Walloon vice-president and minister for the digital sector, Willy Borsus. "In 2022, just over 19,800 people were trained in the various skills centres. We can only welcome an initiative such as Job IT Day."
