Trains are now operating at normal speed following the lifting of speed restrictions put in place due to Storm Ciarán, according to an evening report from Infrabel on Thursday.

The cap of 80 km/hr, set earlier in the day, was lifted for local traffic across the Belgian network from 20:00. The 160 km/hr limit for high-speed lines was also scrapped.

However,  commuters may still face disruptions on Friday morning, including delays and cancellations.

Infrabel said it dealt with the most significant incidents in Flanders and Brussels. “Infrabel’s technical teams are continuing to work throughout the night to carry out necessary repairs. New issues may still need resolving,” the infrastructure manager commented.

“We hope everything will be in order by Friday morning, and the rush hour will run more or less normally,” it added.
