Yellow alert for rain in the province of Luxembourg, 1722 hotline activated

The non-urgent firefighters' hotline, 1722, has been activated following a yellow alert for rain in Luxembourg province on Saturday night,  the Royal Meteorological Institute, IRM, announced on Friday evening.

The 1722 hotline is activated to prevent emergency numbers from being overwhelmed by non-urgent calls. It should be dialled for storm damage or water-related incidents requiring firefighter assistance.

If a life is in danger, individuals should contact 112.

The Federal Public Service, SPF, also recommends 1722.be, an online platform, for requesting firefighter assistance when no lives are at risk.

Priority is given to life-threatening situations by both the 112 emergency centres and the firefighter services. Situations are assessed on a case-by-case basis to determine who needs priority assistance. During storms or floods, many requests are handled concurrently. The public is urged to be patient and not to recall to check on the arrival time of help.

The IRM predicts intense rainfall, occasionally accompanied by thunder and gusty winds between 10 a.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday, particularly in Luxembourg Province, with rainfall potentially reaching 25 litres per square metre.
