Bpost, a public company listed on the stock exchange, may soon cease to distribute daily and periodic press in Belgium, according to reliable sources cited by L’Echo.
The company has reportedly failed to secure the renewal of its concession, which expires on 31 December and is competing with two rivals, PPP and France’s Proximy.
The European tender process organised by the Ministry of Economy for a new state concession spanning 2024-2028, calculated at €125 million per year, appears to have bypassed Bpost. This has been a traditional undertaking of Bpost, supporting several thousand jobs, the Cabinet Council is expected to review this contract next week.
According to the submissions, PPP would have presented the final proposal for the newspaper distribution, while Proximy seems destined to take over periodical distribution. However, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, the Socialist Party’s Minister of Economy, declined to comment, as did the Ministry of Economy.
