Temperatures have noticeably started to drop in recent days, especially at night. This has already prompted snowfall in the south of the country and will soon also bring sleet and snow showers to the heart of Belgium.

Last week, blankets of snow arrived in the highest points of Belgium, such as in Liège – particularly in the High Fens – and in Luxembourg province, around one week earlier than in 2022. Meanwhile, the rest of Belgium has so far only received endless rain. But this could soon change, predictions from the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) on Monday revealed.

Light snow will once again hit the Ardennes late on Monday, while to the east of the Hasselt-Charleroi line, there may be melting snow. "Clear spells will appear in other regions. Ice patches in the Antwerp and Limburg provinces cannot be ruled out," the RMI noted.

There will be a dry start for the northwestern part of the country on Tuesday, with possible ice patches near the Dutch border. The south-east should expect cloudy skies with light precipitation. Again, there may be light snow in the Ardennes region. Temperatures here will drop to -2°C while in the centre, maximum temperatures will be as low as 5°C.

By Wednesday morning it will be freezing in most places, with broad clearings at first but freezing fog in the Ardennes. Later in the morning, showers will cross the country from the North Sea. The showers will become snow or sleet as they pass over Belgium, meaning that Brussels may experience its first melting snow of the season.

"On Tuesday night, a depression will move towards the North Sea and the Netherlands, bringing some wintry precipitation from the coast across the country," RMI noted.

On Thursday and Friday, there will be clear skies in the morning but clouds will roll in later, likely bringing more rain, sleet and melting snow. Maximum temperatures will drop to 0°C in the centre of Belgium.
