Bruno Tobback will lead the Vooruit party’s candidate list in the May 2024 EU elections, the party announced on Tuesday.
Tobback, a Flemish MP, former minister, and former leader of the Flemish socialists, will be followed by current MEP Kathleen Van Brempt, and the employment and finance local councillor from Genk, Yilmaz Kurtal.
"The recent crises have highlighted the critical need for a strong, socially conscious Europe," explained the new party leader, Melissa Depraetere, who replaced Conner Rousseau.
She emphasised the essential role of European solidarity and cooperation in tackling the planet’s major challenges, as well as ensuring the security, prosperity, and purchasing power of Belgian citizens.
