The Royal Meteorological Institute issued a code yellow warning for the entire country on Monday for slippery roads after Sunday's snowfall over Belgium.

The issued warning follows a wintery weekend, culminating in snow falling in most of the country, including in Brussels. On Sunday evening, the active snow zone shifted further across the country towards the Netherlands and Germany, but on Monday morning, another precipitation zone moved in via France.

"In the west and near the French border, there is a temporary chance of snow or slush. In the Ardennes, especially in the province of Luxembourg, a snow layer of 2 to 6cm of snow may form, sometimes causing slipperiness," RMI noted.

The RMI still expects some wintry precipitation on Monday, and in Low and Central Belgium, melting snow will fall fairly quickly in the morning, but this will be followed by rain. Temperatures will rise slowly, hovering around 1°C in the High Fens and 4 to 6°C in Flanders by the end of the day.

The Flemish Traffic Centre reported that the weather forecasts "no longer indicate winter activity that could cause significant problems on Flemish motorways".

Only in the Ardennes will the wintry precipitation last longer on Monday, and a snow carpet of several centimetres may temporarily remain in the morning. In the afternoon, only the High Fens will see (melting) snow.

Tuesday will again be cloudy during the day with spells of rain or showers, which may still be wintry in the Ardennes. Maxima will be between 1°C in the High Fens and 7°C in the west.
