After ten months of renovation works, the façade of the Royal Palace on the Place des Palais in Brussels' city centre is visible again after the scaffolding was removed this week.

The palace has been encased in scaffolding for about ten months (since March 2023) and while the works are not yet finished, the palace façade can once again shine in all its glory. Part of the scaffolding had previously been removed, and the second phase followed this week.

The renovation works aim to freshen up the building, such as the stone balustrades and stairs, the garden walls, the fences and the gates. However, the restoration of the façades also intends to make the building more energy efficient: the 700 windows will now be double-glazed.

While work on the main building is complete, it will continue on the two sides and the outbuilding on Rue Ducale, as well as the fences of the front garden.

Most of the interior façades and windows still need to be done. The cleaning and restoration of the garden wall at Place du Trône will start later. The remaining work is expected to take until the summer of 2024.
