The Port Authority of Antwerp has received a bomb threat related to a ship headed towards the port via the Western Scheldt.

Information was confirmed by the office of the city councillor in charge of the port, Annick De Ridder. “A report has been received. The Federal police are now handling the ongoing investigation. No further information has been provided at this time.”

The ship’s name has not been undisclosed. It is currently anchored in the North Sea, forbidden from continuing the journey.

Unverified reports suggest an explosive device hidden within a vehicle on the ship might detonate upon arrival at Antwerp.

The federal police have not been available for immediate comment.
