Influencers will no longer need to disclose their private addresses on their social media profiles, according to a recent update reported by De Standaard.

The Economic Affairs Department had previously required influencers to disclose their business addresses, which are often also their private addresses, as part of consumer protection relating to sponsored posts.

Non-compliant influencers risked a penalty of up to €80,000.

Now, the Economic Affairs Department states on its website: “You can also fulfil this obligation by referring to your website on your social networks. You must then list your company’s details on this website.”

“This is another way for influencers to avoid having to post their private addresses directly on their social media profiles, besides having a business address at a business centre,”  the cabinet of Secretary of State for Consumer Protection, Alexia Bertrand, explained.

However, it did not mention the fate of fines that have already been imposed.
