The Cambio car-sharing platform had another record year in 2023: for the first time, people used the company to carry out more than one million rides last year, the platform announced on Wednesday.
Cambio expanded its fleet of cars from about 2,200 to more than 2,700 cars in 2023, and saw its number of users rise to 70,648 across more than 100 cities in Belgium. In Brussels, the company carried out 380,000 rides last year – more than 1,000 a day.
"With this result, Cambio proves above all that, after more than 20 years, it is still a solid and robust player in the highly evolving and sometimes uncertain car-sharing sector," the company said in a press release. "The growth in recent years proves that car-sharing is becoming more and more ingrained in everyday mobility."
Cambio claims that each shared car replaces an average of 15 private vehicles. This would mean that there were 37,940 fewer cars on the road last year thanks to the car-sharing system.
In the coming year, Cambio aims to strengthen its market position and further expand its offering, while also aiming to improve the app and its services.

The company also wants to become more responsive to specific community needs, such as child seats in certain cars. From autumn 2024, Cambio also plans to make it possible to learn to drive in a shared car. More electric cars will be introduced too, with 120 on Brussels' roads by May.
Cambio was launched in Belgium in May 2002. The system works with cars that are ready day and night at fixed locations in different cities. Users pay a fixed amount per month, supplemented by an amount per use (based on time and kilometres).
